Shoo Fly Pie The perfect desert for shoe themed eventsShoo Fly Pie is the perfect desert for a shoe themed event. In my opinion, the secret to a good pie is definitely in the molasses. I use King Syrup Molasses. Here is my recipe for Shoo Fly Pie" Shoo Fly Pie Crumbs: 1 1/2 c. flour 1 1/4 c. brown sugar  1 1/2 Tbsp. butter Filling 2 eggs 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. nutmeg a pinch of cinnamon, cloves and ginger  1 1/4 c. hot water 1 c. molasses Mix the first ingredients to form crumbs, reserve 3/4 cup of the crumb mixture for the topping. In another bowl, mix molasses, eggs, baking soda, hot water and the remaining crumb mixture. Pour the molasses mix into a 10 inch unbaked pie shell. (I use a prepared crust) Sprinkle top with the reserved crumbs. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. Note: I cover my crust with tin foil and pre-bake for 5 minutes in a 350-degree oven. Cool crust before adding filling. You can omit this step if you prefer wet-bottom pies. |
